Whilst this is technically on-site treatment, it varies significantly from the usual perception of treatment. With this approach we excavated the plants and root matter and deal with them as one discrete entity. This approach is much faster at removing the invasive weeds than herbicide treatment, but avoids the significant costs associated with off-site disposal.
Treatment of the plant material and surrounding soils can be done using herbicides , heat treatment or ‘shredding’, or a combination there of.
Following treatment there are a few options for re-using the soils-
- Buried at depth under clean cover materials
- Buried within a plant resistant membrane
- Re-use at surface. However this would include a requirement for monitoring the soil for re-growth
